Hi!!! Welcome to the home/distribution page for the english translation of Rotten Heaven! This has been a massive labor of love with a huge learning curve. Thank you sooooooo much to the folks with the Ukagaka Dream Team for helping me out with special thanks to Okuajub and Zichqec on their discord for all the help! This absolutely would not have been possible without you guys. About RottenRotten is a Frankenstein-type monster living in a zombie infested Japan with her companion, Heartache. We don't know much about her creation or history, and frankly I don't think she does either, with memory problems that rival my own. She often forgets Hearache's name and instead calls them a myriad of unique and nonsensical nicknames. Rotten has an interest in growing plants, seemingly putting them anywhere she can find an open spot and frequenting plant shops. She's girly and often reads as ditzy, but seems to be more self aware than she lets on and has a dark sense of humor. That being said, she is still as dumb as a bag of rocks and claims to not even have a brain. Her body is fragile and has a habit of falling apart of she puts too much strain on it, and she isn't able to heal naturally. It's also implied she doesn't need to eat and instead gets her energy from recharging.
About HeartacheHeartache is a short creature with a heart for a head and a body presumably made of fabric. They are Rotten's companion and the only voice of reason in this relationship. I don't think they have an established gender but if I'm wrong I don't care. They have a severe stutter and often struggle to speak consistently unless they put a lot of energy into it. They are also an undead creature similar to Rotten, and we similarly don't know much about their past. With a short fuse yet all the patience in the world to deal with Rotten, Heartache seems to be the only thing keeping Rotten attached to reality, if only barely. History
Rotten Heaven (or Rotten) is a Japanese Ukagaka originally from rottenheaven.at.infoseek.co.jp created by someone called watazou. The earliest evidence of her release (that I can find) is January 1, 2004. This original iteration (dl) was signifigantly more bare-bones, only having 5 unique sprites and an older design of her, still not having her unyuu Heartache at this point. This version stopped being circulated roughly May 20th, 2004, with a very short run before the site closed temporarily. It stayed closed until until aprox. June 2006, when it opened again. At the time it only had a download of THE TOXIC WALTZ, until later that year when HonueHonue was added back to the roster. We don't see Rotten again unti late 2008, the earliest archive with her being September 14, 2008 on gravenote (the creator's blog/diary) with ver.080817 (dl). This is when we finally see her current iteration with Heartache. This version of the site finally closed down late 2008, the new version of rottenheaven, rottenheaven.jp, opening early 2009. This final verion of the site was up until mid-2014, with the last archived version of the site being July 12, 2014 and the last archived version of gravenote being November 26, 2013. With this came the final archived version of Rotten being ver.101010 (dl). That would be the end of it, of course, until I picked her up again. I don't have the exact date I began this project, but the earliest evidence I have being September 26, 2023, though I wouldn't be surprised if I began sooner. I was lurking on archive.org looking for old Ukagaka when I came across her and immediately needed her on my desktop that moment.
